[Rewarded Review] Gift for Daughter

January 10, 2025We purchased this T.V. as a Christmas gift for our daughter. I was not a fan of her having a T.V. in her room, but after agreeing on some ground rules I agreed to see how it goes. I did not want anything too big - personally I would have been fine with something smaller than 32" - but 32" is considered small now in comparison to the increasing average T.V. size. This TV works great for numerous reasons. The Fire TV means that we can use our existing Amazon account to login and did not need to purchase a fire stick separately. The most common applications are visible and easy to download and sign into (Netflix, Disney, YouTube TV etc.) The remote is easy to use, and the parental controls make it easy to restrict content that is not kid friendly. She hardly ever uses it (after begging for a year), so I haven't had to hide the remote or take the batteries yet. Nice that the sleep timer can be used in the event she's watching a movie on the weekend and falls asleep.
[Rewarded Review] Almost Perfect, but what truly is?

March 23, 2023I'll get right to the point to say why I haven't given this product five stars. I use this product for receiving OTA signals and the sensitivity of the tuner is in fact impressive.
My issue specifically is with the program guide not fully populating and not being able to view current and upcoming programming on some of the channels. I am in a strong signal area so the issue is not with reception as the picture quality is consistent and quite excellent.
For instance, If you have a particular station in your area that has four or five sub channels and none of the program information shows in the programming guide, you have to go directly to one of those channels from the programming guide, wait a few seconds and then go back to the programming guide to view the other sub channels. If you scroll through the channels using the channel selector the guide will populate but the process is much slower and you have to view one at a time, but it is a workaround. It's an annoying and inconvenient limitation, but even knowing this in advance would likely not affected me to make this purchase. It's important to go through all the different tiers of settings for best performance of video and audio, there are many and this is a good thing as you can really optimize its performance. I use this in the kitchen to occasionally View programming while doing tasks in there, and even though I haven't rated the audio quality as excellent it is still quite good and considering the dimensions of the TV and the limitations of speakers to fit Within that footprint , it's really four and a half Stars. All in all I'd say it would be extraordinarily challenging to find a product at this price point with this level of performance in the market anywhere and my last four purchases from Best Buy have gone extraordinarily smooth from them having a superb website, having thought out all the variables to make the experience Superior to the fact that I received all deliveries within 2 or 3 days, that's impressive! Best Buy has become my default retailer for electronic related purchases and has put the big A in the backseat.

June 5, 2024Insignia TVs are absolute junk. I purchased one years ago and returned after a few days because of all the issues like freezing up and having to reinstall apps over and over again after they stopped working. I recently purchased a 24" Insignia F20 fire TV for my kitchen. I figured since they were still around, and the reviews were not bad, they must have fixed the issues. Boy was I wrong. They are just as bad if not worst. Channels are constantly freezing and you have to leave the channel and then go back in. I use Hulu for live TV and the Hulu app constantly gives me errors and I have to reinstall and set up again. I know it is not Hulu since I also use it on my Samsung TV with a wireless connection and it works fine. I really think that the company that makes these TV's should be sued for continuing to sell defective product. I am probably just going to purchase a Samsung TV and I will enjoy taking a baseball bat to the Insignia.
[Rewarded Review] 1080p model is better, but it's not why you think.

December 29, 2023This 720p TV is adequate for most every application in which it will be used, but there is one feature that's lacking with makes the 1080p model well worth the extra $20 (at the time of this writing with both versions on sale).
A 24" screen at any most any standard viewing distance is pretty much just as clear as 1080p; however, in my kitchen I'm often only a few feet from the screen, and the difference it's noticeable. And if you have any intent yto use this as a secondary computer monitor, don't even hesitate to go 1080p.
A small variance is that on the 1080p version, the support legs are angled out at the front, in toward the back. On this 720p model, they're straight/perpendicular to the screen.
The thing which makes upgrading to the 1080p version, and why I'm VERY glad I upgraded, is the matte/non-glare screen on the 1080p model. It is a night and day difference in viewing ability. In the attached photo, you'll notice it right away. In my opinion *no* TV, laptop, tablet, or monitor should have a glossy screen. None.
The TV is bulkier than it needs to be, but that bulk gives it space for slightly bigger speakers than a thinner set. The sound remains mediocre, though, requiring the sound setting of "Clear Voice" for the best intelligibility while watching standard shows. Volume is adequate for my purposes.
This TV does have the ability to pair with Bluetooth devices including speakers and earphones, even though the instructions never mention it. You need to go to the "Main" settings page from the FireTV screen, and you'll find it, and a lot of other unreferenced settings. This was a desired feature, but in my case, I may not be able to use it. The BT sound settings allow for only 1 -200ms offset which, in my case, is inadequate. The video leads the audio ever so slightly, and just enough to make it distracting and annoying.
Picture quality is great right out of the box in "Standard" mode, though in darker environments, "Movie" looks a bit better.
I haven't used the FireTV interface enough to weigh in on it fully, as I have a Google TV device plugged in instead. That said, setup was straightforward, and the GUI is initially easy to navigate.
As it is, though, the gloss screen is enough to cause me to steer people toward the 1080p version instead of this one.
